                                       PERSPECTIVES ON TRANSLATING ROMANCE LANGUAGE TEXTS

                                                                                 25 April 2024

                                                        Vytautas Magnus University, Kaunas, Lithuania

This year’s 10th international conference “Perspectives on Translating Romance Language Texts” aims to bring together translation scholars, researchers, students, and practitioners from Lithuania and other countries. Translation is an intersystemic and intercultural act, which has always encouraged studying about and understanding of the Other in specific historical, political and social contexts: as argued by the French philosopher Paul Ricœur, translation is a practice of linguistic hospitality as it opens the door to learning about the Other and helps build intercultural and transnational bridges. In today’s world, this is more important than ever.

We welcome everyone to share their latest ideas, research, and practical insights into one of the most hospitable human activities, translation.

Proposed conference topics:

  • translation theory: historical developments and current issues;
  • translations and retranslations in socio-cultural contexts;
  • literary translation;
  • translation of subject-specific texts and current challenges;
  • the intercultural aspect of translation;
  • current experiences and challenges in translator training;
  • translation and technologies

Conference languages: Lithuanian, English, Italian, and French.

Important dates:

  • Proposals as a 150-200-word abstract (in Lithuanian, English, Italian, or French) and a short bio should be submitted by 22 February 2024 to the following email addresses: aurelija.leonaviciene@vdu.lt  and daiva.kielaite@vdu.lt
